Yeah, good chat. Very insightful.

We've got 7 points from 8 games, 3 of those from a lucky win, and have scored 5 goals in those 8 games. Apologies for not getting the bunting out just yet.

Not surprised you're pleased with that return. Swindon is not exactly a place of great expectation.

Eerie,

you only comment on negative things even after a win.

Mr Doom & Gloom.

You hated the fact that we won yesterday. If we had lost you would be one of those dominating this forum last night and this morning.

Oh well, maybe Thursday Eerie.

I did comment on the game, and some players. Do you want everyone to be exactly the same, and say the same things, to please your simple mind?

I think we should be doing much better with the players we have. You don't. It's fine to disagree, so why not counter what I've said, instead of being a prick?

Have a go, carrot cruncher son.

5/10

Hard to watch, especially the last 20 mins, where we could not pass the ball.

What Moyes said at half time is a mystery too. Go in 1 up, came out 2nd half and the first 10 mins were excessively negative looking to just shut down the game and get 10 behind the ball. They were starting to enjoy a lot of the ball .

Thankfully we got the second goal due to Kehrer getting forward and actually having the balls to have a shot, the deflection and some good quick sharp finishing by Bowen whilst the defenders and keeper were not already set.

Let's not forget, at this moment in time, Wolves are in horrendous form, missing defenders and strikers through injury and a manager under quite a lot of pressure.

Not seen the full game yet as had a bit of a family panic to sort out. Have read all the comments on here and it sounds like we have improved since before the break. Can someone give the performance an un-biased mark out of 10 to simplify it for me.

Ta.

he set up positive yesterday and then reverted to the usual when Cornet went off, he just can't resist being negative

Moyes is lost when it comes to playing on the front foot….has he even managed a team set up to do so for a consistent period and succeeded?

Definitely Benrahma for Cornet in a 433. Possibly Emerson rather than Cresswell. He was much improved yesterday but wasn't really much tested either.

Give me 4-3-3

Kehrer Zouma Aguerd Cresswell

Downes Rice Paqueta

Bowen Scamacca Cornet

Agree Sven that our attempt at 3 at tge back is usually 5 and sitting even deeper.

I know and understand peoples frustration when the likes of me and others highlight what we perceive as ongoing problems even though we won. It’s just that the counter attack model has stopped yielding success and we have to find another way to play. Yesterday Wolves lack of cutting edge but possession game suited us. And while results and thin margins of VAR should really have us with more points, we have to learn to control games more to progress and IMO avoid tge slide back to perennial strugglers.

Soucek was better no doubt than Rice and others with his off ball work and ball retrieval and pressure. He has a role to play in some games but he will always limit our ability to keep the ball.

We will perhaps need another window to get that midfield and even wing backs to play on the proverbial front foot? Especially if Moyes doesn’t rate Downes? Although hopefully he is just bringing him in very slowly?

Agree that Paqueta would be more comfortable deeper with Rice & Soucek (or Downes as a water carrier).
Happy to see us with a back 4. Back 3 seems to be used to hide deficiencies in players and usually ends as a back 5 and means too big a gap between the lines.
Sorry to see Cornet go off as prefer his pace and attacking instincts to Fornals. Because he has played wing back he tracks back as well.
Think that could work well and Bowen cutting in from the right to play with Scamacca works better than having a no.10 behind Scamacca. Too narrow that way and get crowded out.

I think I read that Paqueta was employed as a number 8 at Lyon and in a deeper role as you suggest. Gets more involved and is prepared to press / work apparently?

We buy lots of players who play the 10 role at previous clubs but don’t seem to play them there ? ( Vlasic, Fornals and Benrahma come to mind)

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Wolves - Official Match Thread - Preview
Game plan was clearly win your duels, be direct and worry about winning the game first, performance second.

I don’t have a problem with this if it buys us a bit of time to bed in these new players and work towards better passages of play.

Saw glimpses of improvements and still plenty to get right, 3 points was much needed and hopefully we can start to put a run together to build confidence.

Scamacca very good yesterday, technically superior to Antonio and I thought Bowen benefitted a lot from his ability to hold the ball up and find a team mate in dangerous positions - have a feeling he’ll be quite frustrating at times if the flicks don’t come off but if he kicks on with goals I don’t imagine most will mind.

Wolves were awful, had they had more quality in the final third it probably would’ve been a different story. They didn’t, so it wasn’t and hopefully we can build on this between now and the World Cup.

I agree the performance was still worrying, played a side without a forward & their best CM at Center Half. We concede way to much possession. Wins a win but I’m still a bit worried for this year.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Wolves - Official Match Thread - Preview
Much needed win, but the performance wasn't good if we're being honest. There's no pattern in the way we play, everything seems so random. Tactics are.. questionable to say the least

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Wolves - Official Match Thread - Preview
Agreed sven.
Re.paqueta, I think playing as a number 10 with the way we play is a largely thankless task. No one has done it well. He looks to me like someone who is better with the game in front of him and played a couple of passes yesterday that frankly no one else at the club is good enough to execute. I'd let him start 5-10 yards deeper and run the game from there.

I was, at least, heartened by Moyes’ post-match comments on MOTD. He firmly acknowledges that the performance levels are still not there and some of the new players are still bedding in. He gets it that this needs improving and there was bullshitting to us that all Is well. Refreshing, at least and hope that this is being addressed.

Eerie Descent is annoyed that we won yesterday!!

Normally he’s very prolific on here when we lose and starts bumping up certain threads but after a win like yesterday he simply makes one sarcastic comment about Hoof ball and says nothing about the actual win or certain players playing well.

Never mind Eerie son, we have another game on Thursday. We might lose then.
